Education

Duquesne University, School of Pharmacy, Pittsburgh, PA; graduated in 1989 with B. S. degree in pharmacy.

Biographical Sketch

Upon graduation from Duquesne University, he received a commission in the US Army and served as a pharmacy officer and subsequent Officer in Charge at Bassett Army Community Hospital, Fort Wainwright in Fairbanks, Alaska from June 1989 through December 1992.

Mr. Zurn returned to Erie, PA in January 1993 and accepted a staff pharmacist position at Millcreek Community Hospital. Assumed pharmacy manager position in October 2003, with responsibility and accountability for the provision of pharmacy services to Millcreek Health System eligible recipients, including inpatients, outpatients, transitional-, and long-term care residents.

He is the secretary of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and Institutional Review Board, and a member of the Patient Safety, Infection Control and Performance Improvement Committees at Millcreek Community Hospital.

Mr. Zurn has been an active preceptor for pharmacy students at all levels of their educational experience, as well as serving as a preceptor for PGY1 pharmacy residents. He was an original member of the Pharmacy Residency Advisory Committee in 2004 and became Program Director in October 2006.

Mr. Zurn is the co-coordinator for the Sterile Dosage Forms course at LECOM School of Pharmacy. He also performs lectures on Pharmacy Management and Performance Improvement and also lectures on psychotherapeutic agents to medical students at LECOM School of Medicine.

Areas of Interest

Mr. Zurn's professional areas of interest are pharmacy/hospital management, performance improvement, medication use evaluation and information technology. Personal areas of interest include sports, music and home improvement.
